The Problem...
As crime increases and Police Forces detect more
crime so the volume of physical evidence seized rises in
proportion.
Space is precious and expensive and the
risk of mismanaging the evidence could result in a lost
case at court with
many man hours wasted and a loss
of public confidence.
The Police are faced with increasing storage problems for
high risk items such as drugs and firearms.
New powers to seize assets that may represent the proceeds
of crime exacerbate the storage problem until a court decides
on the case.
Lost and Found property is a particular problem because
items lost in one area may be handed in or reported to
another station some distance away.
